In 2022, Australian mountaineer Ken Hutt (63), set off to do something that's never been done before - to climb and then fly a solo paraglider from Mt Everest, all in the name of raising funds and awareness for Rotary's End Polio Now campaign. Dr Joe Carter (Senior Lecturer in Film and TV) filmed and directed the documentary, researching and filming in some of Australia's best paragliding locations and for 3 months on location in the Nepalese Himalaya. Fly from Everest is an epic story of adventure, sacrifice and daring - with an incredible ending no-one saw coming.

Wooden Block Printing Workshop

Block printing is an archaic form of printmaking, using hand carved blocks to transfer the ink to fabric on its raised surface. The result is often a bold pattern based print, it can be very simple and fun, or you can get quite technical with it.

Puppetry of Paper (Workshop)

How many things can you do with a piece of paper? This workshop is based on Bunraku-style puppetry, a traditional Japanese form of theatre which involves multiple puppeteers working closely together to operate one puppet. Workshop participants will start by making a unique puppet out of paper. They will then learn techniques for bringing their puppet to life, either as individuals or as a team. Each group will work on short performances which are presented to the group.

The exhibition features 35 works, each 40x40cm, chosen by a panel made up of artists Bernardine Hine and Edwina Cherry and curator Jacquie Nichols Reeves. The exhibition demonstrates the scope and variety of stitched and layered textiles. Materials used range from cotton and silk to paper and cardboard and even shoelaces! Techniques include: hand and machine stitching, digital printing, needle felting, gelatine printing, plant - dyeing, collage and painting. The works address many different themes with diverse interpretations and styles. Australia Wide Nine is an initiative of Ozquilt Network Inc. whose mission is to raise the status and profile of art quilters, art quilts and art quilt making in Australia.
