Fly From Everest (E)
Rotary Fundraiser
Sunday, March 30 @ 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
A film about the incredible true story of Ken Hutt’s attempt to become the first person to legally fly a paraglider from Mt Everest and help the Rotary global campaign to end polio Now.
Fly From Everest tracks the steps of Ken Hutt – Rotarian, and Paraglider pilot on a massive task. Journey with Ken as he talks about polio and see his training via the Great Ocean Road and beyond to Nepal and ‘up that bloody hill’!
See first-hand the dangers of Everest and Ken’s breathtaking toughness. Follow along as this amazing expedition unfolds, thanks to Joe Carter’s brilliant and dramatic film work.
The proceeds from the film go to the eradication of Polio. Polio is an insidious, potentially fatal infectious disease that strikes young children. It is historically the world’s greatest cause of disability and can cause permanent paralysis …but it can be prevented, by simple vaccination.
Rotary began the fight against polio back in 1985 when there were 350,000 new cases reported every year, spread across 125 countries. With persistent efforts through Rotary’s PolioPlus vaccination campaign the cases of polio have been reduced by more than 99 percent, but until it is totally eradicated then the threat remains. If we don’t finish the fight now, the wild polio virus could quickly resurge, with devastating consequences.
