Earlier this year Arts Margaret River was set to host part of the national tour of Jessie Lloyd’s fabulous work ‘Mission Songs Project: The Songs Back Home’.
The series explores an extremely significant but largely overlooked dimension to Australian music history, the songs that were written and adapted by the Aboriginal folks and Torres Strait Islanders who lived in missions. Each episode revolves around a single mission song, featuring interviews with Jessie and breakdowns of the research and context behind the song, as well as a performance from Jessie and a host of other talented First Nations musicians.
We are disappointed that the tour had to be postponed due to Covid 19 but we are delighted that it has been reimagined as a 10 episode digital series!
