Notation’ was formed two years ago as a harp and flute duo with Helen Punch on harp and Gail Chown on flute.

Both Helen and Gail have been playing their instruments for many years and as a duo they bring together two instruments that when played in unison, blends beautifully.

Helen was classically trained on piano and flute before changing to the harp over 20 years ago.  Gail grew up in a musical family with singing around the piano, then learnt flute at school and has played ever since.

‘Notation’ performs around the South West with a focus on special events, weddings and celebratory occasions.

The harp and flute as a combination creates a magical musical experience for any occasion, or simply if you want to treat yourself to a musical soiree at home!

Molly Hall

Molly just has to write and more recently really enjoys performing her poetry.  Molly loves the sound of words ever since as a young schoolgirl she read the works of T S Eliot.  Possible because her initial form of expression was through Creative Dance rhythm features strongly in her work – although rhyme and reason are sometimes hard to find!  Molly is predominantly inspired by Nature, but she can wax lyrically over such topics as old socks, astro-physics, naughty dogs, oranges, politics, teapots, friends and potatoes.  Humour often smiles its way into her poems, but she can write sad and thought-provoking ones too.  She is self-taught, lacks restraint and often reverence, probably because her earliest poems were sung to the pansies in her garden and the cows in the neighbouring fields back in her homeland in the rural English Midlands.

So far, she has written 10’s of poems, some of which have been published, some she can’t even remember writing, and some have forever disappeared into the bowels of the computer but, in spite of her age, there are some still beating in her heart and banging on her brain, waiting, waiting for that moment of emergence.

About Young@HEART

The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.

The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
