Young @ HEART – Kate Finkelstein
Monday, 16 December, 2024 @ 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Kate Finkelstein is a singer-songwriter, composer, and performer with a deep love for crafting songs that tell a story.
Her unique brand of progressive-pop blends Celtic-folk, Classical, Electronic, Musical Theatre, and Progressive Rock — a reflection of her passion for exploring music beyond the usual borders.
Inspired by trailblazing artists like Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Björk, and Paul Kelly, as well as composers like Claude-Michel Schönberg, Debussy, and Mike Oldfield, Kate’s music walks the line between familiar and unexpected. Her songs are personal, reflective, and unafraid to push at the edges of pop.
With over 20 years of live performance experience, Kate has done it all — from fronting corporate bands and original music acts to creating cabaret shows and producing music videos. She’s also recorded two albums and three EPs, each one a reflection of her evolving musical journey.
Her training began with classical piano and voice, but her curiosity took her further. Over the years, she’s sought out contemporary and rock singing styles, shaping a voice that’s as versatile as it is emotive. From powerful belts to soft, husky lows, Kate’s voice captures the heart of every song she writes and performs.
Kate’s career has taken her to stages across Australia, Asia, and the US, where she’s performed for audiences of all sizes — from intimate crowds of 20 to festival stages of 20,000. Having worked with four independent labels along the way, she’s now proud to be fully independent, taking control of her creative path.
Grounded, hard-working, and endlessly curious, Kate Finkelstein continues to follow her passion for storytelling through music. With every song, she invites listeners into a shared experience — one of reflection, connection, and discovery.
About Young@HEART
The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.
The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
Young@Heart is broadcast live on Radio Margaret River.
