POINT OF CHANGE chronicles the first surfers to ‘discover’ the point break in Lagundi Bay, Nias, Indonesia, and the unintended dramatic consequences that followed. Stumbling across the ‘perfect wave, two surfers start a chain reaction of events noone could have foreseen.
The true story of the first surf pioneers to find and surf ‘the point’ on Nias island, and the dramatic consequences for them and the people and place. we travel through time and revisit the megalithic island, taking a trip with the first surfers and the never before seen super 8 footage, taking us on an unexpected journey through time and examining what happens when we discover ‘paradise’.
Directed by Rebecca Coley
“I love it. Really clever and visually ravishing and tells a great story.”
– BILL FINNEGAN (AUTHOR OF BARBARIAN DAYS)
“Point of Change is thoroughly entertaining, but also a social study that we can learn from.
It’s a singular story, and also a microcosm of so many of these surf tourism destinations…excellent. And that big swell!”
– JAMIE BRISWICK (SOUNDINGS).
“Visually, Point of Change is punctuated by vibrant, psychedelic animations … the grainy surf footage is sure to appeal to fans of the sport … the film succeeds in raising important questions about the consequences of westerners’ fascination with ‘exotic’ locations …”
