My Life in Miniature (Exhibition)

Born and raised in Amsterdam during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in a highly artistic family, I now live and work in the beautiful Southwest of WA. Blessed with the creative genes inherited from my Dutch graphic designer dad and my Australian illustrator/ artist mum, I have made art for as long as I can remember.
In this exhibition I have highlighted some moments, events and periods of time in my life that have made a deep impression and which have modelled me into who I am now. Having recently been diagnosed with ASD, I look back on my extraordinary and fairly eccentric childhood and beyond, and recognise how autism shaped my experiences; furthermore, I have come to realise that my whole family of origin was living on the spectrum.
It is only in hindsight that we can hope to make some sense of the path that our life’s journey has taken up to this point. By working on these miniature settings, I have aimed to bring some order in my life’s experiences and memories, and to further understand what has been my underlying drive. The contrasts in the various moods of the pieces are a reflection of my bipolarity, and provide the stark counterpoints that have influenced my life.
I hope that observers of my work will find some aspects that resonate with them and help them to reflect on their own lives.
