Young @ HEART – Michelle Spriggs & Gary Benness

Monday, 30 September, 2024 @ 10:00 AM 11:00 AM

  • Michelle spriggs 1
  • Gary benness 2

Michelle Spriggs is a professional musician, voice coach and piano tutor. Originally from New Zealand, Michelle has been honing her craft in the Southwest for the last 20 years. Performing at many wineries, concerts, festivals and weddings, Michelle is a seasoned performer who enjoys mixing her love of Jazz and Contemporary music by intentionally entwining the two to provide an eclectic and entertaining show.

Majoring in Jazz Voice at Christchurch Canterbury University in New Zealand gave Michelle the tools to proceed in a career of top-quality performance in Margaret River alongside well-known musician David Rastrick and many others accomplished musicians. Career highlights include opening for Roxy music, Dianna Krall and Carol King at Leeuwin Estate Winery.

Gary Benness will be joining Michelle on guitar, bass and backing vocals. Benness is an established multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and session musician based in Dunsborough.

About Young@HEART

The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.

The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.

Young@Heart is broadcast live on Radio Margaret River.
