Young @ HEART – Kevin McDonald and Asha Henfry
Monday, May 6 @ 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
About Asha Henfry
Asha Henfry is a South West Australian-based flautist on the forefront of cross-genre, improvised music in Australia. As an honours graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), she masterfully merges her extensive knowledge of classical, jazz and world music stylings and challenges the traditional boundaries of the flute. Specialising in Brazilian Choro (a niche world music genre that she holds close to her heart), Asha glides effortlessly through its technically demanding terrain with her distinctly expressive and joyful, effervescent sound.
About Kevin McDonald
Kevin McDonald is the go to maestro of choice lending his talents to many Margaret River musical outfits. Including playing double bass and some lead guitar on Mike’s most recent EP release “Locked Down”. Kevin has been honing his skills on guitar and bass for a lifetime. From cruise ships and functions to our very own Leeuwin stage. A Berklee grad and scholarship guitarist Kevin lives and breaths music.
About Young@HEART
The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.
The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
Young@Heart is broadcast live on Radio Margaret River.
