Young @ HEART
Monday, 23 January, 2023 @ 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
John Bartle with climate talk followed by Ross Goulden (piano).
The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.
The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
About John Bartle
John qualified as an agricultural scientist in 1967 and worked for the Department of Agriculture for two years before embarking on a working holiday in Africa, Europe and Asia. On his return to WA in 1973 he took a position with the then Forest Department. His work involved rehabilitation after bauxite mining in the Northern Jarrah Forest; management of salinity risk in water supply catchments; and agricultural salinity. He was initially stationed at Dwellingup where he bought a small farm, ran up to 100 cows for several years, before subdividing the block to focus on improving the management of the 30ha of jarrah forest. He retired from paid employment in 2014, worked on the Dwellingup property for several years before becoming a resident of Margaret River late last year.
