DESCRIPTION:An exhibition by Cassi-Jo Davis and Miranda FreeMarch 18 – April 24. Mon-Fri\, 10am-4pmArtist Talk: April 20\, 11.30am\n\n\n\nCassi-Jo Davis is a textile artist from Bridgetown whose work explores the feminine connection to nature through personal stories and challenges faced by historical and contemporary women. She is fascinated with ancient folklore stories and symbolism of the feminine throughout history and from different cultures. She is inspired by Religious & Spiritual Art\, Art Nouveau\, Japanese Art\, the Pre-Raphaelites and Figurative artists. Cassi creates layered\, richly coloured and textured works using antique and recycled textiles\, paint and embroidery to create wall and wearable art that speak to the viewer on a deeply felt level.  \n\n\n\nMiranda Free is a representational painter from Nannup who usually works in oils but has a deep interest in learning and experimenting with a variety of media. Launching into a body of work featuring legendary women and goddesses important to the arts\, she is inspired by the work of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh\, a member of the Art Nouveau group the ‘Glasgow Four’. Several of these works feature techniques pioneered by Mackintosh that involve using traditional gesso\, egg tempera and are embellished with semi-precious stones\, beads and shell. She is also including Art Nouveau inspired stained glass works and oil paintings typical of her usual practice\, in this exhibition. \n\n\n\nCassi’s and Miranda’s works resonate due to their shared inspirations and interest in highly patterned and floral surfaces. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email
