SUMMARY:Snakes And Surf Breaks (E)
DESCRIPTION:Special Event Screening and Live Q&A with Director Luka Raubenheimer\n\n\n\nBar opens 60 minutes prior to screening\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\nIn search of waves and one of Indonesia’s most elusive reptiles\, the new wildlife documentary from Australian film maker and professional snake catcher Luka R blends risky field research\, road trip filmmaking and faux documentary into a moving story of friendship and obsession that explores our complicated relationships with each other and the natural world.\n\n\n\nSnakes and Surf Breaks follows a daring and amateur team’s 3 month expedition across the Indonesian archipelago in search of a Cobra. Their journey takes them through some of thickest tropical jungles\, flooded caves\, remote coastlines and dense urban sprawls of one one of the worlds fastest growing countries. Capturing all the moments of tension\, chaos and absurdity that comes with a wild and mostly unplanned chase. \n\n\n\nAt its core\, Snakes and Surf Breaks is about a pursuit\, not only to encounter and document the Cobra but also the pursuit of dreams and the reasons why we chase them. What starts as one person’s focused mission sprawls out into a shared adventure full of risks\, unexpected discoveries and unscripted comedy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

SUMMARY:Women & Art: Myths\, Legends and Goddesses (Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition by Cassi-Jo Davis and Miranda FreeMarch 18 – April 24. Mon-Fri\, 10am-4pmArtist Talk: April 20\, 11.30am\n\n\n\nCassi-Jo Davis is a textile artist from Bridgetown whose work explores the feminine connection to nature through personal stories and challenges faced by historical and contemporary women. She is fascinated with ancient folklore stories and symbolism of the feminine throughout history and from different cultures. She is inspired by Religious & Spiritual Art\, Art Nouveau\, Japanese Art\, the Pre-Raphaelites and Figurative artists. Cassi creates layered\, richly coloured and textured works using antique and recycled textiles\, paint and embroidery to create wall and wearable art that speak to the viewer on a deeply felt level.  \n\n\n\nMiranda Free is a representational painter from Nannup who usually works in oils but has a deep interest in learning and experimenting with a variety of media. Launching into a body of work featuring legendary women and goddesses important to the arts\, she is inspired by the work of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh\, a member of the Art Nouveau group the ‘Glasgow Four’. Several of these works feature techniques pioneered by Mackintosh that involve using traditional gesso\, egg tempera and are embellished with semi-precious stones\, beads and shell. She is also including Art Nouveau inspired stained glass works and oil paintings typical of her usual practice\, in this exhibition. \n\n\n\nCassi’s and Miranda’s works resonate due to their shared inspirations and interest in highly patterned and floral surfaces. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

SUMMARY:500 Days In The Wild (E)
DESCRIPTION:A Special Event Screening and Live Q&A with Director Dianne Whelan\n\n\n\nBar opens 60 minutes prior to screening\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n500 Days In The Wild follows the epic 6-year journey of filmmaker Dianne Whelan as she sets out to reconnect with nature and become the first person to travel the world’s longest trail.\n\n\n\nThe 24\,000 km Trans Canada Trail stretches across the continent of North America\, connecting the Atlantic\, Arctic and Pacific oceans. It is the longest trail in the world. For six years filmmaker Dianne Whelan traveled the entirety of the land and water trails\, the only person to ever accomplish this journey. 500 Days in the Wild recounts Dianne’s journey by bike\, canoe\, skis\, snowshoes and on foot and her cross-cultural visits with those who live close to the land. \n\n\n\nThis feature doc culled from 800 hours of footage is an intricate weave of adventure film\, personal reflection and stunning captures of wildlife and landscapes. Using humour\, adventure\, beautiful cinematography and a great soundtrack (including songs from Joni Mitchell\, First Aid Kit\, Xavier Rudd\, and The Tragically Hip)\, 500 Days in the Wild will entertain audiences and inspire hope for the future. \n\n\n\nShe started out alone\, disillusioned with state of the world\, to look for different ways of caring for the land and for each other. She ended the journey a bit wiser\, more hopeful\, in love and with a passion to share this story. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

SUMMARY:My Life in Miniature (Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition by Victoria Robertson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFebruary 19-April 10. Mon-Fri. 10am-4pm\n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Amsterdam during the 60’s\, 70’s and 80’s in a highly artistic family\, I now live and work in the beautiful Southwest of WA. Blessed with the creative genes inherited from my Dutch graphic designer dad and my Australian illustrator/ artist mum\, I have made art for as long as I can remember. \n\n\n\nIn this exhibition I have highlighted some moments\, events and periods of time in my life that have made a deep impression and which have modelled me into who I am now. Having recently been diagnosed with ASD\, I look back on my extraordinary and fairly eccentric childhood and beyond\, and recognise how autism shaped my experiences; furthermore\, I have come to realise that my whole family of origin was living on the spectrum. \n\n\n\nIt is only in hindsight that we can hope to make some sense of the path that our life’s journey has taken up to this point. By working on these miniature settings\, I have aimed to bring some order in my life’s experiences and memories\, and to further understand what has been my underlying drive. The contrasts in the various moods of the pieces are a reflection of my bipolarity\, and provide the stark counterpoints that have influenced my life. \n\n\n\nI hope that observers of my work will find some aspects that resonate with them and help them to reflect on their own lives. \n\n\n\nArtist in Residence\n\n\n\nVictoria will be in residence every Monday\, Thursday and Friday 10am – 4pm. Excluding public holidays (when it will change to Tuesday/Thursday/Friday) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

This lecture shows how western artists from Van Gogh to Walter Crane were influenced by the works they saw from Japan and how they developed their own work as a response. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

SUMMARY:Young@HEART - Hannah Kerr with Anna Bogachova & Max Palmer
DESCRIPTION:Donations Welcome\n\n\n\nSign up to Young@HEART eNewsletter\n\n\n\nMusic\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHannah Kerr\n\n\n\nHannah Hale is a 17 year old soprano\, who enjoys singing a variety of music genres\, including jazz and contemporary\, but specialises in classical opera. Hannah looks forward to study music after school\, and one day travel the world performing. She hopes her music will touch the hearts of many people\, and is very excited to share her love of singing with the community.  The classical pieces she will be performing are from a variety of eras\, some which will keep you on your toes and others pulling on the emotional heart strings of the audience.  When Hannah sings she wants to be able to move people\, connect with the audience\, and allowing them to just stop\, be in the moment and enjoy the sounds.  Hannah has recently released her debut originals\, “It’s Love” and “Expectations” which are available on all streaming platforms.  Photo credit: Morrison Photography    \n\n\n\nAnna Bogachova\n\n\n\nAnna Bogachova graduated from Ukraine’s Kharkiv University of Art. Since then her music has seen her performing at various Lounge\, Concert and Piano Bar venues in the Middle East and Australia. Anna is currently teaching piano privately and performing with various musicians and groups across the South West. Anna will be accompanying Hannah on piano. \n\n\n\nMax Palmer\n\n\n\nMax is a 14-year-old pianist who has been homeschooled all his life. He has been playing the piano for around five years and is largely self-taught. Developing his skills mostly by ear rather than reading sheet music\, he enjoys learning well-known pieces and music from films. He is especially inspired by the soundtrack of Amélie\, composed by Yann Tiersen. He will also be performing a piece from the movie The Greatest Showman and a song by Tom Petty. Max loves playing the piano when no one is watching or listening so performing in front of a live audience for the first time is daunting\, but he is excited by the challenge. His sister Lili will be accompanying him on stage\, playing guitar and singing.  \n\n\n\nAbout Young@HEART\n\n\n\nThe Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer. \n\n\n\nThe initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.  \n\n\n\nDue to high interest\, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless\, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience. \n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\nFoyer \n\n\n\nRun-Time\n\n\n\n60 minutes \n\n\n\nTicket Prices\n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop\, Children’s Activities\, Studio Theatre\, Visual Arts\, Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email

SUMMARY:Women & Art: Myths\, Legends and Goddesses (Exhibition Launch)
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition by Cassi-Jo Davis and Miranda FreeMarch 18 – April 24. Mon-Fri\, 10am-4pmExhibition Launch: March 19\, 6-8pm\n\n\n\nCassi-Jo Davis is a textile artist from Bridgetown whose work explores the feminine connection to nature through personal stories and challenges faced by historical and contemporary women. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will be officially opened by Tamara Aurora from Enchanted Margaret River. Chrissy Maddison from Etheara Band will deliver a solo set evoking the Divine Feminine as a sonic soundscape to the Exhibition launch. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrint\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email
