…so obviously can’t recall much of what happened in those days, but he somehow developed a love of folk music, and singing same, from frequenting many of the folk clubs that were around at the time. He also learned to play guitar, after a fashion.
Moving on several decades and he’s still singing folk songs, mostly from Australia, the British Isles, Ireland, the USA. He sings what the pretentious writers of the blurbs would describe as ‘an eclectic mix of songs and musical styles enlivened by an irreverent commentary on life……’ but which he refers to as a sort of hotch-potch of liquorice all sorts from all sorts of places: in short he sings songs that he likes wherever they come from; traditional, contemporary, humorous or serious: and if, perchance, you like a few of them too, so much the better.
He’s not a bad entertainer: so if you’ve nothing better to do on a Monday morning you might as well pop along to Young at Heart to see him: who knows, you might even like him.
The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.
The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
Young@Heart is broadcast live on Radio Margaret River
