Monday, November 11 @ 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Asha Henfry -flute/vocals and Kevin McDonald – guitar
Asha Henfry is a WAAPA trained flautist and vocalist. She has recently moved to Hamelin Bay after a colourful 10 years of living and creating an illustrious career in Melbourne. Asha has toured nationally and internationally to Berlin, New York and throughout the vast landscape of Brazil. She is one of Australia’s most prominent exponents of Brazilian choro – a niche world music genre that she holds close to her heart.
Canadian born Kevin McDonald is an accomplished guitarist and bassist who has shared the stage with Dianna Krall, Sarah Vaughn, James Taylor, Carole King, and Chris Isaak. Kevin completed his jazz guitar studies at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and is the premier guitarist in the South West region.
Kevin and Asha have honed their craft over many years in jazz, classical, world and popular music styles. Since becoming neighbours in the South West they have formed a musical friendship that sparks magic. Their set lists are as eclectic as their careers- Honeysuckle Rose is played alongside Michael Jackson, Jethro Tull and Blondie. Asha’s flute and voice seamlessly intertwined, Kevin’s masterful guitar work providing the complete rhythm section.
About Young@HEART
The Young@HEART music program is held at Margaret River HEART every Monday morning from 10am to 11am. The program does not run on public holidays or when there is another major event in the foyer.
The initiative was developed to safely encourage participation in the arts among older residents (over 60s) during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to high interest, the free performances have since been opened to people of all ages. Nonetheless, the senior demographic still makes up the majority of the audience.
Young@Heart is broadcast live on Radio Margaret River.
