In order to keep a promise he made to his wife, Zhu Zhi Gen prepares to return with his wife’s caged bird, the sole companion of her final years to her native village where he’ll set the bird free.
He’d decided to make the trip alone but Ren Xing, his grand-daughter, a spoiled little city girl, is forced to go with him. During this journey to the outer reaches of traditional China and through magnificent landscapes, these two people who share nothing in common open up to each other, sharing memories and adventures.
