MRSHS drama production – Jasper Jones
May 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 7:00 pm, repeating until 10 May, 2019
Based on the novel by Craig Silvey and adapted for stage by Kate Mulvany.
Set in the fictional, Western Australian town of Corrigan (in 1965) this coming of age story follows fourteen –year- old Charlie Bucktin as he is called, in the middle of a moonlit night, to help Jasper Jones. Beginning as a murder mystery the play explores the fragility of individuals struggling with the racism, isolation and brutality of a remote country town in the 60s. Charlie and Jasper are faced with the violent death of a teenage girl and then the discovery of the horrific secrets linked to this death. At times comical and touching the play is also confronting and it is recommended for a mature 15+ audience due to the adult themes and use of coarse language.
Featuring Drama students in years 12, 11 and 10 and starring Tyrell McKenzie Roe as Jasper Jones and Zhao (Jack) Zhengyang as Jeffery Lu. MRSHS would like to thank and acknowledge Myles Pollard (Drift & Jasper Jones films) and Vivienne Garret (Summer of the Seventeenth Doll – Black Swan State Theatre) for their drama coaching and support.
All youth must be accompanied by an adult as this is a licensed event.
Bar and kiosk opens at 6.30pm and the play commences at 7pm.
All tickets $20 each
