ABOUT ELAINE AND THE RESIDENCY
Award winning envirommental Land Artist, Elaine Clocherty has returned to Margaret River for a residency at Zani Place – home studio of local artists Gerry Reilly and Margot Edwards, of the Melting Pot Glass Studio.
Throughout February and March, Elaine is creating a site specific artwork in the forest at Zani Place (near Cape Mentelle), including a timetable of public workshops, slide night and upcoming launch on Saturday, March 21 Autumn Equinox.
Elaine has recently returned from travelling and exhibiting around Australia and NZ, including winning awards at Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney and Perth.
“I’m excited about this residency as it gives me a chance to create a larger artwork and integrate everything I have learnt on our journey,” Elaine said.
Elaine will be holding a full day open workshop on site amongst the marri and jarrah trees, on Saturday, March 14, for individuals and family groups, one week prior to the launch.
“Its a beautiful space with a lot of room to create in and the light changes during the day. This workshop is valuable for artists, novices and for anyone looking for a chance to connect with our beautiful local landscape,” she said.
“As a full day workshop it will give people the chance to really follow their process and create small installations that relate to the whole forest environment.”
After an introduction from Elaine, workshop participants will explore the “nature of materials” and collect all that they need to build a sculpture from the bush. They will then create a Site Specific work which is created in the forest and sits in harmony with it.
To register for the workshop, please email Margot Edwards firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or phone Margot 0420940123 or Elaine 0408097803 for further information.
Everyone is welcome to attend a free outdoor slide evening at Zani Place, two days prior to the workshop, where Elaine will show her collected images of international site specific environmental artworks and her favourite artists and installations from around the world.
Some may remember Elaine’s Rotary Park public workshops during summer 2013-14, or have stepped across her “river pebbles” installation as part of by the local Shire streetscape upgrade on the northern end of the town’s main street.
In the next few months, Elaine will also run a workshop at Heide Gallery in Melbourne, and create a Land Art installation on Mandurah foreshore, before heading off again to create a Sculpture by the Sea artwork in Denmark, Europe.
